Appendix J- Starfleet Navy and Marine Corps Mess Dress Uniforms

Mess Dress uniforms are worn for all functions in the Captain's Mess; simply put, they are the most formal uniform of Starfleet personnel.  As such, they are the only uniform on which service medals are worn- miniature medals are worn on the right breast, in order of preference.

For information and graphics about the medals and their order of preference, see Appendix D.

Part 1: Flag Officers of the Starfleet Navy and Marine Corps

Naval flag officer mess dress uniforms consist of a white jacket trimmed with the piping of their group, and a white blouse with rank insignia on both sides of the collar and the end of each jacket sleeve.  Each sleeve has two 1-cm. stripes, in the color of the group, 1 inch from the cuff.  Pants are black, with a single stripe of the group color down the side.

Marine flag officer uniforms are of the same design and style as the naval uniforms, except the jacket is navy blue, and the piping on both the jacket and pants is gold.

Part 2: Officers of the Starfleet Navy and Marine Corps

The basic design and style for all naval officers under flag rank is the same, save for that of the Commanding Officer of any starship or installation: naval officers wear a teal blouse underneath a white jacket, piped in the color of their group, with a single 1-cm. stripe, also the color of their group, around the cuff of each sleeve.  The Commanding Officer of any installation or ship wears a white blouse underneath his or her jacket instead of the teal blouse.

Marine officers wear the same navy jacket as flag officers and the same white blouse underneath, except with only a single 1-cm. gold stripe just above the cuff of the sleeve.

Part 3: Warrant Officers of the Starfleet Navy

The dress mess uniform is the only Starfleet uniform designed slightly differently for warrant officers than the commissioned or non-commissioned officers.  They wear a teal blouse underneath a mostly-white jacket; however, the blouse is piped with a thin stripe of gold around the collar, and the shoulders on the jacket are also a teal color.  The rest of the jacket is white, and is piped with the color of the group.  Like the officer's jacket, it has a 1-cm. stripe, in the color of the group, just above the cuff of the sleeve.

The Starfleet Marine Corps do not have Warrant officers.
