My god. I realize I've been offline lately due to personal issues, and I haven't had much chance to visit the page yet. Like a couple of others, I remember running into Masako via IRC in DALNet shortly after I arrived in ASR, some what, 8 years ago. She always had a way to bring a smile to my face. That's the one thing I'll miss about her most.

Masako was a fantastic person, both in Role Play and outside it. Her characters were inventive, original, and so real that every post she wrote brought the story to life.

And although I hadn't written with her in recent years, I will always remember the good times we had on board the Chesapeake (I'm sure there were others!) and the humour that she brought to everything she laid her hands on.

Masako was part of the fine tapestry of ASR - without her there will always be a loose thread waiting to be tied up - but maybe that's how it should be.

I would just like to start this off, with that I only met Masako once, and she seemed like a great person. But I would also like to add that I am very touched by this page, the comments that all of you have said, and things that you have shared, show me that she was loved by all.. and will always be remember..

To Masako's family, my heart felt condolences.. Masako you will be missed.

I was fortunate enough to know Masako and have the opportunity to write with her for quite some time. She was my first contact with ASR, the Personnel Officer when I joined. She was also my ALB instructor and I then went on to serve with her on the CHESAPEAKE for a number of years. So much of my early years in ASR were influenced by her example and her positive outlook. In fact, her logon when I first joined was 'Sunshine' a fitting description of her sunny disposition .

It didn't matter if she just met you or if you knew her for years, she treated you like a life long friend. I recall reading the NRPG section of her posts first because she always took the time to write personal messages to each individual on the ship, even if it was just one or two words or a cyberwave. She cared enough to do this everytime, without fail.

Throughout the years, my contact with Masako diminished, but she would send me a message from time to time, commenting on something I'd written or about something that reminder her of me. You just knew she was always there for support or to jump in with a funny comment at a moments notice, the Grand Peanut in the Peanut Gallery, the Great Salted One.

I will miss her patience, her wit, her off-beat humor that made me laugh hysterically so many times that a warning should have been on her posts about not reading them at work unless you were willing to encur strange looks from those around you. I will also miss her compassion, her ability to make strengths out of weaknesses and to always be an encouraging beacon of light and hope to all around her.

We didn't just lose a writer. We lost a friend. Fare the well Masako Goto, we miss you already.

I met Masako on the DALnet #asr channel some, dunno, 5 years ago? More or less... Though we never served on the same unit I remember her hard work in Round Tables, and the different offices she took on her long service to ASR. Even when we never really maintained a relationship beyond comraderie, I will miss her: knowing she was there was reassuring, and considering the incredible amount of lives she touched, I am sure she will be sorely missed.

Good bye, sister-in-arms, gentle wind to your winds in your way out there and a prompt return to a safe life. Blessed be.

I first me ther chatting on IRC, where her unique take on things (and vocabulary) came out. Se was a **huge** help when I took on the role of COMALB; her organizational skills really made things easy for me those first few weeks in that billet.

Despite her administrative talents, I'll always remember her portrayal of her characters- who were very much like Masako in many ways: their unique brand of humor, their organizational abilities...but, mostly, it was their soul that struck me. Her characters were HUMAN, round and real, regarldess of race.

THAT's how I'll remember Masako- for bringing a little more depth and humanity to our little club.

Unfortunately, I never really got to write with Masako. I arrived just as she was leaving. However, between her posts aboard VICTORY and her other ships, I did get to read some very humorous, strange, creative, schizophrenic, intriguing, and thought-provoking stories. Her posts were never boring.

Fortunately, I "met" Masako through her duties with ALB and ASR administration. We occasionally exchanged e-mail over the years. My first impression was that this was a very strange person (her e-mails are the same as her posts :->). That was until I learned that I was wrong: she was Masako. And that knowledge and those e-mails brought smiles to my face more often than not.

Although I am not a frequent or regular contributor to ASR, it has been, and still is, a big part of my life. Due largely to Masako's efforts, ALB and ASR Record Keeping are both well-managed segments of the club's administration. For that, we are all better off. For getting to interact, even briefly, with such an irrepressible spirit, I am better off. Thank you, Masako. You will be missed.
